Poll: Responding to Outbreaks

The recent swine flu outbreaks have given us an opportunity to think about our responses to the emergence of new infectious diseases that might become pandemics. Responding to these unexpected threats is complicated and expensive. Given the recent (over the past decade or so) threats that have emerged, including SARS, avian flu and now swine flu, is the public starting to doubt the seriousness of outbreaks or the accuracy of the experts?

If we had to make a choice between responding to a new threat with only currently allocated resources, what would you do?
